Long ago, in a village near the holy river Ganga, a little girl named Krishnadasi lived with her mother. One day, when she was just five years old, something very sad happened. While they were near the river, both she and her mother accidentally fell into the water. The river was flowing very fast. Her mother could not swim and drowned. But little Krishnadasi held tightly to a piece of wood and floated with the river for many miles.
As she floated down, she passed by Shri Mahaprabhuji. He was sitting quietly, praying near the river. When he saw the little girl in the water, he rushed to save her. Gently, he pulled her out and looked into her eyes. Shri Mahaprabhuji could feel that she was a very special soul. He softly whispered Shri Krishna’s name into her ear, blessing her with divine love.
Shri Mahaprabhuji then sent her with a devotee named Krishnadasji to the city of Patna. There, one of his dear disciples, Harivams, helped her. Harivams searched for her family and, after some time, was able to find her father. When the father came, he saw a change in his daughter. She now wanted to live with Shri Krishna’s devotees and sing His name. Her father, with a kind heart, allowed her to stay with Harivams and grow in the love of Shri Krishna.
As Krishnadasi grew older, she remained full of devotion. When she became a young woman, many people thought she would get married. But she gently told Harivams that she did not want to marry. She only wanted to serve Shri Krishna. So Harivams brought her to Shri Mahaprabhuji’s home and told Shri Mahaprabhuji’s son, Shri Gusainji, about her wish.
Shri Gusainji saw her pure heart and welcomed her with great joy. He asked her to help his wife, Rukmini. Krishnadasi became like a daughter to the whole family. Everyone loved her because she was gentle, kind, and always thinking about Shri Krishna.
One day, Rukmini was expecting a baby. Krishnadasi smiled and told her, “You will have a baby boy, and his name will be Gokulnathji.” Some days later, Rukmini began feeling the baby would come. But Krishnadasi knew that day was not lucky. She placed her hand gently on Rukmini’s stomach and said, “Not today. Wait a little longer.” Right away, the pain stopped.
A few days later, when the stars were shining in a happy way, an astrologer said the time was now perfect. Krishnadasi went to Rukmini again and softly rubbed her stomach. “Now it is time,” she said with a smile. That same moment, Rukmini gave birth to a healthy baby boy. Shri Gusainji named him Vallabh, but because of Krishnadasi’s earlier words, everyone lovingly called him Shri Gokulnathji.
Years later, another baby boy was born in the family. Shri Gokulnathji, who was now older, said to his father, “Let’s name him Gokulnathji too.” But Shri Gusainji gently said, “That name is already yours. It was chosen with love by our dear Krishnadasi. We cannot use it again.” So the new baby was named Ghanshyam.
One peaceful night, when the sky was clear and full of stars, Shri Gusainji and Rukmini asked Krishnadasi to sing something about the Lord’s beautiful pastimes. Her heart was full of devotion. She closed her eyes and began to sing softly. Her voice was so full of love that Shri Gusainji said, “It feels like you are really watching Shri Krishna’s divine dance.”
From that day, Krishnadasi would sing and write songs about Shri Krishna’s loving pastimes. She felt His presence all the time. Her life became a song of love and joy. Shri Krishna was her dearest, and she was deeply loved by Him.
She lived with a heart full of faith, singing of the Lord with pure love, and showing everyone that true happiness comes from being close to the Divine.
