84 Vaishnav Story 49 Ramanand Pandit

A long time ago, in the holy town of Thaneshwar, there lived a wise Brahmin named Ramanand Pundit. He spent his days reading sacred books and teaching others. He was proud of his knowledge and wanted everyone to know how smart he was.

One day, Shri Mahaprabhuji visited Thaneshwar. Ramanand Pundit, wanting to show off, went to speak with Him. But something strange happened. The words he had planned in his mind came out all wrong. Embarrassed, he returned home without saying what he wanted.

At home, he decided to pray to the goddess of knowledge, Sarasvati. He stopped eating and drinking, and for three days, he only chanted her name and thought of her. On the third day, she appeared and gave him a blessing. She asked, “What would you like?” He replied, “I want to win every debate with anyone I meet.”

With great pride, he went back to speak with Shri Mahaprabhuji, thinking he would surely win this time. But again, all his words came out backward and confusing. Shri Mahaprabhuji gently asked, “You pleased the goddess of knowledge. Then why do your words come out like this?”

Once more, Ramanand went home and prayed. Sarasvati came again and asked, “What is it now? I already gave you what you wanted.” Ramanand Pundit sadly said, “I still could not win against Vallabhacharya.”

The goddess gently explained, “My blessing helps you win against people, but not against the Lord. Don’t you know that Shri Vallabhacharya Mahaprabhuji is the Lord Himself? You cannot defeat Him. You must surrender to Him.”

At that moment, Ramanand Pundit understood. His heart changed. He bowed down, left his pride behind, and humbly asked Shri Mahaprabhuji to accept him as a disciple. Shri Mahaprabhuji said, “You are a great scholar. Why do you want to follow me?” But when He saw Ramanand’s true and humble heart, He lovingly welcomed both Ramanand and his wife into the Path of Grace.

Later, when Shri Mahaprabhuji came again to Thaneshwar, He stayed at Ramanand’s home. That evening, Ramanand said something silly to his wife. He said, “Hurry and collect the cow dung, or the Vaishnavas will take it all!”

Shri Mahaprabhuji heard these words and became upset. He loved all Vaishnavas very dearly. He thought, “If Ramanand speaks like this, how can he truly respect the Lord’s beloved devotees?” Shri Mahaprabhuji said a special mantra and declared, “You are no longer my disciple.”

Then, He left Ramanand’s home with a few Vaishnavas and went to a nearby place called Amitirth, where He took a bath and did His prayers.

Even though Shri Mahaprabhuji could forgive anyone who wronged Him, He could not ignore when someone disrespected a Vaishnava. He believed that Vaishnavas must always be honored with love, care, and deep respect. They are special souls, and to serve them is like serving Shri Krishna Himself.

After Shri Mahaprabhuji left, Ramanand Pundit became deeply sad. He stopped thinking about himself and wandered around in a half-dreamy state. But he never forgot one thing—whatever he ate, he first offered it to Shri Krishna.

One day, he saw fresh jalebis being made in the market. They were golden, hot, and sweet. He bought a few, mentally offered them to Shri Nathji on Govardhan Hill, and then ate them.

That very same moment, Shri Nathji was having His lunch. Shri Mahaprabhuji entered the temple to wash Shri Nathji’s hands, and He saw something surprising. There was a piece of jalebi in Shri Nathji’s mouth!

He asked, “No jalebis were offered today. Where did this come from?” Shri Nathji lovingly replied, “From Ramanand Pundit.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji was surprised. “You accepted his offering even though I had renounced him?” He asked.

Shri Nathji answered with a smile, “You told Me to accept souls. You may have let him go, but I will never leave the ones You give Me. He is Mine now.”

Later, when Shri Mahaprabhuji was speaking with Damodardasji, He said, “Even though I gave him up, the Lord accepted his jalebi offering.”

Damodardasji asked, “If Shri Nathji has accepted him, will you also accept him again?”

Shri Mahaprabhuji said, “Only if he never says a bad word about a Vaishnava for the next 100,000 lives.”

A Vaishnava from Thaneshwar heard all of this and went back to tell Ramanand Pundit. When Ramanand heard Shri Mahaprabhuji’s words, he did not become sad. Instead, he became joyful. He thought, “Even if it takes 100,000 lives, one day, my guru will accept me again!”

That night, Ramanand had a dream. In the dream, he passed through 100,000 lifetimes, learning to always respect Vaishnavas. When he woke up, something wonderful happened—Shri Mahaprabhuji accepted him again!

Through this story, Shri Mahaprabhuji taught the world a gentle but strong message: never speak badly of a Vaishnava. If Shri Krishna accepts someone, He never lets them go. His love is forever.

Poem: The Sweet Jalebi

Ramanand knew all the holy books,
He taught and read with prideful looks.
He tried to win with words so smart,
But pride had closed his humble heart.

He prayed to Sarasvati so bright,
To help him speak and win the fight.
She gave her boon with power strong,
But still his words came out all wrong!

Shri Mahaprabhuji, wise and kind,
Helped him leave his pride behind.
He joined the Path with joy so true,
And served the Lord in all he'd do.

But one suspicion, so mean and wrong,
About Vaishnavas and cow dung—
Made Shri Mahaprabhuji feel pain,
And so he walked away again.

Though sad and lost, Ramanand stayed,
And offered sweets before he prayed.
A jalebi made with love so deep,
To Shri Nathji, his heart would leap.

The Lord accepted with a smile,
Though it had been a little while.
And when his Guru heard the tale,
He said, "Let true love never fail!"

Then came a dream through lifetimes vast,
Where all bad words were in the past.
And waking up with tears of grace,
He found his Guru's warm embrace.

Respect the Vaishnavas with care,
The Lord Himself is always there.
With love, devotion, heart so free—
You’ll find the Lord eternally.
