84 Vaishnav Story 56 Achyutadas Sarasvat

Achyutadas Sarasvata had a very sad heart. He had lost his dear parents and his loving wife. Feeling all alone, he decided to leave his home and go on a long journey to visit holy places. He hoped that by visiting these places, his sadness would go away.

As he was traveling, he reached the sacred city of Jagannath Puri. There, many people had gathered to hear a beautiful spiritual talk by Shri Mahaprabhuji. Achyutadas Sarasvata also joined the crowd and quietly sat down to listen.

Shri Mahaprabhuji’s words were full of love and wisdom. They touched everyone’s hearts. After the talk, Shri Mahaprabhuji looked at Achyutadas Sarasvata and saw the sadness in his eyes. With great kindness, Shri Mahaprabhuji asked him why he looked so troubled.

Achyutadas Sarasvata gently shared his story. He told Shri Mahaprabhuji about the loved ones he had lost and how empty he felt inside. Hearing this, Shri Mahaprabhuji leaned close and softly whispered the name of Shri Krishna in his ear.

At that very moment, something amazing happened in Achyutadas Sarasvata’s heart. A warm, peaceful feeling washed over him. His sorrow slowly faded away, and he felt full of hope and devotion. He understood that the pain he had been feeling came from forgetting his deep connection to Shri Krishna.

He bowed to Shri Mahaprabhuji and asked if he could serve him in any way. Shri Mahaprabhuji accepted him with great love. Achyutadas Sarasvata then joined him on a long journey all around India. Wherever they went, he served Shri Mahaprabhuji with care and joy—offering food, helping with travel, and doing whatever was needed.

After many days, they reached a town called Adel. There, Shri Mahaprabhuji told him, “It is time for you to go back home now.”

Achyutadas Sarasvata’s eyes filled with tears. “Please, I cannot live even one day without seeing you. How will I go home without you?” he asked.

Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled gently and gave him a special gift—his own sandals. “Take these,” he said, “and remember that I will always come to you. Wherever you are, I will appear.”

With this sweet promise, Achyutadas Sarasvata returned home. He kept Shri Mahaprabhuji’s sandals with great love and worshipped them every day.

Some time later, news spread that Shri Mahaprabhuji had taken the path of renunciation, becoming a sanyasi. He had gone to Benares and entered the holy river Ganga. Some people said they saw him rise up in a beam of light and go to his eternal home.

One day, a Vaishnav who had seen this came to visit Achyutadas Sarasvata. He shared what he had witnessed in Benares.

But Achyutadas Sarasvata calmly said, “You must be mistaken. Shri Mahaprabhuji would never leave his children behind like that.”

Seeing the visitor’s confusion, Achyutadas Sarasvata quietly opened the doors of his temple. The visitor was shocked to see Shri Mahaprabhuji sitting inside, calmly reading a book.

Shri Mahaprabhuji looked up and said to the visitor, “Do not feel sad. In Benares, you saw my worldly departure. But remember, I live in the homes of my true devotees.”

Achyutadas Sarasvata knew in his heart that Shri Mahaprabhuji was always with him. From that day on, he lived each moment feeling the loving presence of his Guru. He never felt alone again.

Even when others thought Shri Mahaprabhuji was gone, Achyutadas Sarasvata knew the truth—his Guru lived in his heart, in his home, and in every breath of his devotion.

Poem: The Sandals That Stayed

Achyutadas cried with a heart full of pain,
He’d lost his dear ones, like flowers in rain.
To Puri he went, where he sat down so still,
He listened to words that gave his soul will.

Shri Mahaprabhuji saw the tears in his eyes,
And whispered a name that opened the skies.
The name of Shri Krishna, so gentle and sweet,
Made sadness and sorrow quickly retreat.

He followed his Guru on paths far and wide,
With service and love, right by his side.
But when told to go home, he started to cry,
“I can't be without you, not even to try.”

So Shri Mahaprabhuji gave him a pair,
Of sandals so sacred, with love and care.
“Wherever you are, I’ll always appear,”
These words stayed with him, ever so dear.

One day came news that brought some despair,
“Shri Mahaprabhuji’s gone, he rose through the air!”
But inside his temple, so peaceful and bright,
He sat reading calmly, glowing with light.

“Don’t be afraid,” he said with a smile,
“I live with my bhaktas all the while.”
The truth of devotion forever will stay—
Our Guru’s with us, each night and day.

Moral: If your heart is full of love and faith, your Guru is never far away.
