84 Vaishnav Story 63 One Carpenter from Adel

In a small village called Adel, there lived a young boy who worked as a carpenter. He made things out of wood with his hands. One day, when he was just thirteen years old, something very special happened.

The young carpenter saw a divine man walking by. This was Shri Mahaprabhuji. The moment the boy saw him, his heart filled with peace and love. He felt something he had never felt before. He didn’t know why, but he just wanted to stay close to Shri Mahaprabhuji forever.

From that day on, the carpenter boy stopped going to work. He spent all his time with Shri Mahaprabhuji. He followed him everywhere, listened to his kind words, and watched him speak about Shri Krishna with so much love. Every moment near Shri Mahaprabhuji felt like joy.

But soon, the boy’s family became worried. They needed him to work so they could earn money and buy food. They went to Shri Mahaprabhuji’s mother and said, “Our son is always with your son. He doesn’t help us anymore. We are not able to earn enough.”

Hearing this, Shri Mahaprabhuji’s mother gently asked her son, “Please tell the carpenter boy to go back to work. His family is struggling.”

So Shri Mahaprabhuji kindly told the boy to return home. The boy was heartbroken. “But I can’t stay without seeing you,” he cried.

Shri Mahaprabhuji lovingly said, “Don’t worry. I will come to see you.”

The boy obeyed and went home. But every minute felt like a year. He missed Shri Mahaprabhuji so much. His heart ached with love. Shri Mahaprabhuji, who could feel his pain, began visiting him every day. He would sit with him and speak about Shri Krishna, filling his heart with sweetness.

After some days, the boy’s family again came to complain. “Now your son comes to our house and makes our son stop working again!” they said.

Shri Mahaprabhuji’s mother was worried and asked her son not to go again. But Shri Mahaprabhuji loved the boy too much. So he made a special plan. He said, “I will only visit him for a short time every day.”

So every day, for half an hour, Shri Mahaprabhuji would visit the carpenter boy. That little time together became the boy’s most precious moment of the day.

As days went by, Shri Mahaprabhuji knew it was time to teach the boy a deeper lesson. He knew that true love for Shri Krishna becomes stronger when there is a little distance. Just like a small clay pot must be baked in fire to become strong enough to hold water, a heart must feel a bit of longing to truly hold Shri Krishna’s love.

So Shri Mahaprabhuji started staying away for longer. The boy missed him deeply, but something beautiful began to happen. Even though he could not see Shri Mahaprabhuji, he could feel him inside his heart. The love grew stronger and purer.

By the time Shri Mahaprabhuji left Adel for a long pilgrimage across India, the carpenter’s heart was full. He did not cry anymore. He smiled, because he knew Shri Mahaprabhuji’s divine form now lived forever within him.

Just like the Gopis of Shri Krishna in Vrindavan, who loved him more and more even when he went away to herd cows, the carpenter boy’s love only grew with each day.

And in this way, Shri Mahaprabhuji helped the simple carpenter become one of the most blessed souls—full of steady love, deep devotion, and a heart always longing for Shri Krishna.

Poem: “A Carpenter’s Love”

A boy in Adel with tools in hand,
Saw Shri Mahaprabhuji take a stand.
His heart lit up, his work set down,
He followed love through the little town.

Each day he stayed by his dear side,
With glowing joy he could not hide.
But his family cried, “He must return!”
So came a gentle lesson to learn.

Shri Mahaprabhuji, with love so sweet,
Said, “I will come to you and we’ll meet.”
For just half an hour, each day they'd sit,
And talk of Shri Krishna, never to quit.

Then slowly the visits became less and few,
Yet the boy’s pure love only stronger grew.
With longing and faith, his heart became light,
For his beloved guru stayed in his sight.

Like cups made strong by the fire’s song,
His heart could hold devotion strong.
The lesson is simple, pure and true,
Real love stays—even out of view.
