84 Vaishnav Story 73 Sadu Pande

Long ago in the small town of Anyor, near the beautiful Govardhan Hill, there lived a kind man named Sadu Pande. One day, Shri Mahaprabhuji was traveling across South India when Shri Krishna Himself appeared to Sadu Pande in a dream. The divine voice said, "I have taken form on the Govardhan Hill. Come quickly and make My worship known to the whole world. I have come to Earth in three forms: Nagdaman, Indradaman, and now Devadaman."

Sadu Pande was filled with wonder and joy. He waited eagerly for Shri Mahaprabhuji to arrive. When Shri Mahaprabhuji came to Anyor with five of His disciples, Sadu Pande welcomed them warmly into his home.

As they spoke, a gentle voice called down from the top of Govardhan Hill, "Tell Sadu Pande’s daughter, Naro, to bring me some milk."

Naro smiled and replied, "A guest has come to our home. After serving him, I will bring your milk."

She filled a bowl with milk and carefully climbed the hill. There she saw a beautiful young boy with a shining face and eyes full of love. This was Shri Krishna as Devadaman. He drank some of the milk and gave the rest back to Naro.

When Naro returned, Shri Mahaprabhuji asked, "What do you carry in your hands?"

She said softly, "These are the remains of Devadaman’s milk."

Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled and said, "Please give me what is left."

Later that evening, Sadu Pande invited all the townspeople to meet Shri Mahaprabhuji. They gathered eagerly, and Shri Mahaprabhuji asked Sadu Pande to share the story of how Devadaman appeared.

Sadu Pande began, "There is a Brahmin in our village who owns a cow that gives a lot of milk. But for two days, the cow gave no milk. The Brahmin grew angry and told the young cowherd, 'You must be stealing the milk.'

The cowherd replied, 'I have not touched her milk, but I will watch carefully today.'

That day, he followed the cow to the top of Govardhan Hill. To his surprise, he saw her letting her milk flow over a rock with a small hole. The next day, the Brahmin himself came to see. Again, the cow climbed the hill and gave her milk to the rock.

The people of the village gathered and lifted the rock. Beneath it, they found a divine seven-year-old boy smiling at them.

The boy said, 'My name is Devadaman. I love milk, yogurt, and butter. Please send Naro to me every day with dairy sweets.'

From that day on, everyone in the village began to bring milk, butter, and yogurt to the hill. They believed that Devadaman fulfilled all their wishes."

Shri Mahaprabhuji was deeply moved and said, "Tomorrow, we will visit Devadaman together."

The next morning, Shri Mahaprabhuji and his disciples climbed the hill with Sadu Pande. Shri Mahaprabhuji lovingly lifted the divine child into his arms and asked, "What do you wish, Baba?"

Devadaman replied sweetly, "Make me known all over the world."

Shri Mahaprabhuji built a small temple on the hill and placed his disciple Ramdasji in charge of caring for Devadaman. He said, "Adorn him with a peacock crown and a gunja bead necklace. Offer him all types of dairy delights every day."

As days passed, Devadaman’s love for cows became known. Shri Mahaprabhuji even gave Sadu Pande his own gold ring, saying, "Sell this ring and buy a cow for Devadaman." Soon, the people of Braj brought many cows for Devadaman, and a large cowshed was built at the foot of the hill.

Devadaman often visited Sadu Pande’s daughter Naro. Once he asked her for milk. She giggled and said, "But your bowl is so small."

He answered with a smile, "I will drink from whatever you give me."

She gave him a large bowl of milk, which he finished happily. The next day, Naro found Devadaman’s small golden bowl in her house and took it back to the temple. Everyone was amazed at how Shri Krishna, as Devadaman, showered His love on Sadu Pande’s family.

He also visited Manikchand, Sadu Pande’s brother, and his mother. Dressed like a simple village boy, he asked for buttered rotis each morning. When asked his name, he replied, "Devadaman."

In this way, Shri Krishna filled their lives with sweetness and joy. Even today, people remember how He came as a little boy, loved by all, asking only for their love and simple offerings.

Poem: Devadaman’s Smile

On Govardhan Hill so high and fair,
A little Lord waited with love to share.
He asked for milk, for butter and curd,
His voice so sweet, the softest heard.

Naro brought him milk so warm,
He drank it all in boyish charm.
The cows all gathered, the people too,
With love in their hearts, so pure and true.

Shri Mahaprabhuji built Him a home,
Where Devadaman’s laughter could freely roam.
The hill still sings of that joyful time,
When the Lord as a child made Braj sublime.

So remember dear child, keep your heart light,
For love and kindness make the world bright.
