252 Vaishnav Varta 9 - Harji Kothari

Now, the sevak of Shri Gusainji, Harji Kothari, the nephew of Bhaila Kothari, living in Rajnagar Asarva, the feeling of their story is told here.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): This Harji is a sattvic devotee. In the divine play his name is Surangi. He has manifested from Chitra, therefore he has their emotional form.

So Harji was born in Gujarat in the house of Beni Kothari. Beni Kothari had three brothers. How Beni Kothari became a sevak of Shri Acharyaji Mahaprabhu is already told in the story of Narahari Sannyasi. And Bhaila Kothari and Jaita Kothari, these two brothers became sevaks of Shri Gusainji. Their story will be told later.

Once Shri Gusainji came to Dwarka. On the way to Rajnagar, the village of Beni Kothari came. There, in a garden, they made their camp. Beni Kothari was not there. Therefore Harji’s mother took Harji and came for the darshan of Shri Gusainji. At that time Harji was six years old. Harji’s mother made a request to Shri Gusainji, Maharaj! Take Harji into your refuge. Then Shri Gusainji, knowing Harji as the son of Beni Kothari, showed grace to Harji and performed the offering of the name.

Afterwards, Shri Gusainji gave Harji his own leftover mahaprasad from their divine hand. As soon as Harji took that mahaprasad, he experienced the birth-leela of Shri Acharyaji. Words (poetic expressions) arose within him. At that very moment Harji told his mother and began to sing a pada. That pada.

Raga Dhanashri

On this day Shri Vallabhadev appeared, in the house of Shri Lachhman Bhatt there was celebration, auspicious and beautiful was the good fortune. Mangal suhelara.

The refrain was sung here, songs full of nectar, all married ladies came. Mangal.

The brahmans here recited the Vedas, giving pleasing blessings, here the women filled the sacred courtyard, and festive door-hangings were tied. Mangal.

In every house here the kettledrums were played, handfuls of offerings were showered, here many kinds of gifts were given, men and women were adorned. Mangal.

Hearing that pada, Shri Gusainji became very pleased with Harji. At that very moment Shri Gusainji gave Harji their own chewed prasada. Afterwards, Shri Gusainji departed from there. They came from Dwarkaji to Rajnagar. There they stayed for some days. Then returning again to Rajnagar, from there they went to Adel.

Prasang 1 – The Seva of Harji Kothari

Once, Harji Kothari himself made a beautiful manuscript of the Sahasranama of Shri Gusainji and presented it before the Lord. Hearing this, Shri Gusainji became very pleased with Harji Kothari. Afterwards, whenever Shri Gusainji came to Rajnagar, he stayed at the homes of the three brothers, the family of Bhaila Kothari. Among them, Shri Gusainji would hold an audience at the home of Bhaila Kothari. There he would sit. And at the home of Harji Kothari the Lord would cook. And at the home of Jaita Kothari, Shri Gusainji would sleep at night. In this way Shri Gusainji fulfilled the wishes of these three.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): Why? Because in the divine play these three are the intimate sakhis of Shri Chandravali. Harji is the manifestation of the sakhi Surangi. And Bhaila Kothari is ‘Komodini’. She is the rajas-form of Changhkalata, a sakhi of Shri Swaminiji, and is deeply attached to Shri Chandravali. And Jaita Kothari is ‘Brajbhama’. She too is an intimate sakhi of Shri Chandravali.

So near their home there was a tree of a certain kind. Under that tree Shri Gusainji would wash their feet. They performed evening worship there. These three were such recipients of grace of Shri Gusainji and such devotees of Bhagavan. Therefore how far can one tell their story?
