252 Vaishnav Varta 50 - Lakshmidas Doshi

Now the sentiment of the Varta of Shri Gusainji’s sevak Lakshmidas Doshi, resident of Gujarat, is being narrated.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): He is a rajas devotee. In divine play, his name is “Vanraji.” He has manifested from Praveena; therefore, he is of that very form of sentiment.

Prasang 1 – The Revelation of the Divine Form and Receiving the Name

Once, Shri Gusainji came to Gujarat. Shri Gusainji stayed at the village of Lakshmidas. There, Lakshmidas came for the darshan of Shri Gusainji. Then Shri Gusainji showed Lakshmidas His own form. Lakshmidas received the direct darshan of the complete Supreme Purushottam through Shri Gusainji. Then Lakshmidas performed a full prostration before Shri Gusainji and made a humble request, saying, “Maharajadhiraj! Please bestow grace upon me and give me the Name.” Then Shri Gusainji, out of His grace, bestowed the Name upon Lakshmidas and afterward accepted his submission. Lakshmidas was a worthy vessel of divine grace. Therefore, he made a request to Shri Gusainji, saying, “O Lord of grace! I desire to serve the divine form. Therefore, please bestow upon me the Bhagavat form. Then I shall serve.” Then Shri Gusainji bestowed upon Lakshmidas a form of Lalji. He served that form very well with royal splendor.

Prasang 2 – Understanding the Natural Compassion of Shri Gusainji

After that, once the offering of Annakut to Shri Govardhan Nathji had already been completed earlier. Shri Gusainji, being extremely pleased, took one rupee first with His own sacred hand from a Vaishnava. Then Lakshmidas Doshi said to Shri Gusainji, “Maharajadhiraj! This act has not been done rightly.” Then Shri Gusainji asked Lakshmidas, “How is it not done rightly?” Then Lakshmidas humbly submitted to Shri Gusainji, saying, “Maharajadhiraj! Do not take it by hand.” Then Shri Gusainji remained silent. After some days, Shri Gusainji became very pleased regarding this matter. Then Lakshmidas said to Shri Gusainji, “Maharajadhiraj! You are great; You are God. You always do such acts. This is Your very nature. Just as the moon nourishes eighteen types of vegetation by sprinkling them with its nectar, yet it does not know that ‘I am giving life to them.’ Why is that? Because it is its natural disposition. But who can understand this? That even a little of this remaining is astonishing.”

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): The inner meaning of this is that Shri Gusainji Himself is God. There is no deficiency of wealth for Him at all. He always and eternally performs Annakut and all such offerings. Yet, showing compassion toward living beings is His natural disposition. Therefore, Shri Gusainji took the offering of Annakut of Shri Govardhan Nathji from the Vaishnavas with His own sacred hand. In this way, He showed immense compassion toward living beings. But who can understand this? The intended meaning is this: what is in whose mind—how can it be known? Here it is said that not everyone understands this sentiment. Therefore, many are astonished, thinking that there is some deficiency of wealth at Shri Govardhan Nathji’s place, and so Shri Gusainji takes this offering with His own hand. Those who understand it in this manner are harmed by such thinking. With this sentiment, Lakshmidas said to Shri Gusainji, “This act has not been done rightly.” Understanding this matter, Shri Gusainji became pleased with Lakshmidas. Thus, this matter is such.

Upon hearing the words of Lakshmidas, Shri Gusainji Himself became extremely pleased and said, “Lakshmidas is truly a greatly graced Bhagavadiya, who has such knowledge of the divine form.”

After that, Shri Gusainji went for the darshan of Dwarkaji Shri Ranchhodji. Lakshmidas also accompanied Shri Gusainji. After taking the darshan of Shri Ranchhodji, they became extremely pleased. Then Shri Gusainji had food prepared for Shri Thakurji and offered the bhog at the proper time. After the bhog was completed, Shri Gusainji Himself partook of the meal, and Lakshmidas also received the Mahaprasad. After that, Shri Gusainji stayed in Dwarkaji for several days and took the darshan of Shri Ranchhodji. Then Shri Gusainji departed from there. He came to Gujarat and arrived at Lakshmidas’s home, prepared food, and offered bhog to Shri Thakurji. After the bhog was completed, Shri Gusainji Himself ate, and all the Braj residents and attendants also received Mahaprasad. That night, Shri Gusainji stayed there. After that, Shri Gusainji went to Shri Gokul.

Then Lakshmidas offered many gifts to Shri Gusainji and sent offerings to Shri Govardhan Nathji. He personally accompanied Shri Gusainji for some distance. Afterward, Lakshmidas bid farewell to Shri Gusainji and returned to his home. Then Shri Gusainji arrived at Shri Gokul, and Lakshmidas began serving Shri Thakurji in his own home. Later, Lakshmidas abandoned all worldly dealings. In this way, he spent his time.

He had such a simple nature. How far can one describe it? Day and night, he spent his life only in divine discourse. He did not waste even a moment in any other conversation. If any Vaishnava came, he showed them great affection and courtesy. He regarded Vaishnavas as the very form of Bhagavan. When a Bhagavadiya came, he went forward to meet them. Whatever divine discourse was asked, he would speak. Day and night, he kept his mind absorbed in divine discourse. He did not even understand other conversations. Thus, this Lakshmidas was such a greatly graced Bhagavadiya of Shri Gusainji, upon whom Shri Gusainji was always pleased. Therefore, there is no end to his Varta. How far can it be described?
