252 Vaishnav Varta 81 - One Param Vishanva who did Bhagvad Varta with a Tree

Now, a sevak of Shri Gusainji, a supreme Vaishnav residing in Gujarat; the Bhav of his account is told.

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): He is a royal devotee. In the divine play, her name is “Bhavohodhika.” She awakens devotion in the hearts of devotees. She manifested from Ratna; therefore she is of the form of Bhav.

He was born in a village in Gujarat in a Brahmin family. Once Shri Gusainji came to Dwarikaji for the darshan of Shri Ranchhorji. At that time, outside the village, he camped under a tree near a pond. There he received the darshan of Shri Gusainji. The beauty of that darshan was beyond expression. Then he thought in his mind: “This is Ishwar. Therefore it is good to take refuge in Him.” After that, he made a request to Shri Gusainji: “Maharaj! Please graciously make me your sevak.” Then Shri Gusainji, recognizing him as divine, accepted his refuge, granted him the naam mantra, and then came to Dwarikaji.

Prasang 1 - Service under the Tree

In that village, there was only this one Vaishnav; there was no other Vaishnav family. This Vaishnav lived on the main road of the village. Once Shri Gusainji came to Dwarikaji. He passed along that very road. At that time the Vaishnav heard that Shri Gusainji was approaching. Immediately, he went out and stood in the middle of the road. Seeing Shri Gusainji, he touched His lotus feet with his head in sashtang dandavat and then made a request. He then brought Shri Gusainji to his home. But his home was very small, so Shri Gusainji camped right there.

Then, at the request of that Vaishnav, Shri Gusainji had food served there. After that, he lay down. Later, that Vaishnav arranged the cooking for Shri Gusainji along with the Vrajvasis who were present. That day, those Vrajvasis took Mahaprasad there. At the time of utthapan, Shri Gusainji sat on a seat with a cushion. At that time, that Vaishnav was sitting near Shri Gusainji, serving His lotus feet. Then Shri Gusainji asked him: “How do you conduct your worship here and in what manner?” That Vaishnav made a request to Shri Gusainji: “Maharaj! Once you had come here before. Under a tree here, Maharaj, you had camped. There you accepted me as your sevak. Then you gave me the darshan in a form of infinite beauty. Therefore that tree also heard the naming mantra and received darshan of Your Supreme Purushottam form. Then I realized that this tree is also a Vaishnav. Therefore, Maharaj, I sit daily under that tree, and from that tree, I praise you taking Your name.” After that, he returned to his home. Shri Gusainji, hearing this, was very pleased. Then Shri Gusainji said from His own holy mouth: “I asked a worldly question, and this Vaishnav has answered in a transcendental way.”

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): This shows that a Vaishnav must always possess transcendental wisdom at all times.

Later, Shri Gusainji asked that Vaishnav: “Tell me, Vaishnav, where is that tree?” Then the Vaishnav said: “Maharaj! that tree is outside the village.” Then Shri Gusainji at that moment called His horse. Then mounting the horse, Shri Gusainji went to see that tree. That Vaishnav also went along with Shri Gusainji. Outside the village was that tree. There Shri Gusainji arrived. From a distance, that Vaishnav pointed out the tree to Shri Gusainji: “Maharaj! That tree is here.” Then, that tree, seeing Shri Gusainji from afar, bent down with all its branches. Shri Gusainji went under the tree. Then the tree, moving its branches, touched the lotus feet of Shri Gusainji. By touching the lotus feet, the tree itself uprooted from the ground. Shri Gusainji then embraced the tree.

Then the Vaishnav asked Shri Gusainji: “Maharajadhiraj! Who was this tree in a previous birth? Kindly tell me.” Shri Gusainji granted the command: “This is the soul of the divine play; in the past, it was a cowherd of Shrinathji named Penchu. It came here to this world after committing some offense. Later it became a Vaishnav. It was very significant; therefore it was born as a tree. Hearing the naming mantra, it became a follower of Pushtimarg. Now it is accepted along with you and has attained the divine play.”

Bhav Prakash (Revealing the Sentiment): This shows that the association with such a Vaishnav is supreme. Through their connection alone, even inanimate things can act in this manner.

Later, that Vaishnav made a request to Shri Gusainji: “Maharaj! How long will the delay be now?” Then Shri Gusainji, out of grace, said: “For so many days, I will have this body of yours perform seva. That is the proof. Later your worldly body will leave, and you will attain divine play.” Hearing these words from Shri Gusainji, that Vaishnav became exceedingly pleased.

Later, Shri Gusainji returned to his camp. That night Shri Gusainji stayed there. Next morning, he left that place. The Vaishnav offered everything in his house to Shri Gusainji at that time. Later Shri Gusainji went to Dwarika. Within a few days, that Vaishnav gave up his worldly body and attained the transcendental divine play. Thus, that Vaishnav became such a supremely favored Bhagavadiya of Shri Gusainji. Therefore, how long should his account be told?
