A long time ago, in the beautiful land of Kashmir, a bright and kind boy named Madhava Bhatt was born in a Brahmin family. He loved to learn and always respected his elders. As he grew older, he became the student of a wise teacher named Kesava Bhatt. Together, they went to listen to the sacred talks of Shri Mahaprabhuji, who shared the sweet wisdom of Shri Krishna's love and devotion.
Kesava Bhatt was very proud of his knowledge. When they went to listen to Shri Mahaprabhuji's teachings, Kesava Bhatt sat high on a raised seat. But Madhava Bhatt sat humbly on the ground, quietly soaking in every word with love and respect.
After the talks, Madhava Bhatt liked to spend time with Shri Mahaprabhuji's followers. He enjoyed their light-hearted and happy conversations. One day, Kesava Bhatt asked him, "Why do you go to those playful talks and not attend my serious lessons?"
Madhava Bhatt replied gently, "I find more joy in the cheerful talks of Shri Mahaprabhuji's disciples than in your lessons."
This made Kesava Bhatt unhappy. He felt that Madhava Bhatt was no longer loyal to him. So, before leaving on a journey, he took Madhava Bhatt to Shri Mahaprabhuji and said goodbye.
Later, someone asked Shri Mahaprabhuji, "Both Madhava Bhatt and Kesava Bhatt listened to your words. Why did only Madhava Bhatt truly understand them?"
Shri Mahaprabhuji replied with love, "Kesava Bhatt was full of pride and thought he already knew everything. But Madhava Bhatt listened with a heart full of devotion. That is why he understood."
After receiving initiation from Shri Mahaprabhuji, Madhava Bhatt asked, "What is my duty now as a Vaishnav?"
Shri Mahaprabhuji kindly answered, "Serve Shri Krishna with love."
Madhava Bhatt said, "My family has a Deity of Shri Krishna. May I continue worshipping Him with your blessings?"
Shri Mahaprabhuji agreed and taught him the special way of worship called "Pushti Seva." With great happiness, Madhava Bhatt returned to Kashmir and lovingly began serving his Shri Krishna every day.
One day, a rich man's son passed away in the same town. The father cried out in great sorrow, "If someone cannot bring my son back to life, I too shall die."
A Vaishnav passing by said, "Why should such sadness happen in a place where the great devotee Madhava Bhatt lives?"
Hearing this, the grieving father ran to Madhava Bhatt and begged, "Please, you are a great soul. Bring my son back. If not, I will not be able to live."
Madhava Bhatt's heart filled with kindness. He folded his hands and prayed deeply to Shri Krishna, "O merciful Lord, please help this man. You are full of love and praised by all. Please remove his sorrow."
Shri Krishna replied to his prayer, "Since your heart feels pity, tell the man his son is alive."
Madhava Bhatt looked at the man and softly said, "Your son is alive."
The man stood still in shock, unable to believe it. Another person nudged him and said, "Celebrate! Your son is alive!"
Everyone began to cheer and praise Madhava Bhatt. They said, "He is a great devotee! He spoke, and the child returned!"
But Madhava Bhatt became worried. "Now people will keep coming to me with all their troubles. This will disturb my Shri Krishna," he thought.
So, quietly in the middle of the night, he took his beloved Deity and left the town. He traveled to Adel to continue his peaceful service.
Madhava Bhatt was very wise and a good writer. Shri Mahaprabhuji made him his scribe. Madhava Bhatt would write down Shri Mahaprabhuji's deep explanations on the sacred Shrimad Bhagavatam, which were called the Subodhini.
Whenever he could not understand something clearly, he would stop writing and ask Shri Mahaprabhuji to explain. Only after he understood perfectly would he write again. He always sat with his feet covered and with great respect in front of Shri Mahaprabhuji.
One time, while on a holy journey, Madhava Bhatt stepped outside late at night. Sadly, some thieves were hiding nearby. One of them shot an arrow, and Madhava Bhatt was hurt badly. As he lay down, he softly chanted the holy name of Shri Mahaprabhuji, and then he left his body.
When the news reached Shri Mahaprabhuji, someone asked him, "Why did such a devoted soul leave the world in such a painful way?"
Shri Mahaprabhuji explained gently, "A long time ago, while making Shri Krishna's flower bed, he did not see a small thorn. That thorn pricked Shri Krishna. This was the result of that mistake. But because he left while remembering the Lord, he has now reached Shri Krishna's eternal home."
Later, Shri Mahaprabhuji understood that it was time to stop writing his Subodhini. He felt that Shri Krishna wished for him to return as well. Soon after, he went to Benares and peacefully left this world to be with the Lord.
The Devotee Who Spoke with Love
Madhava Bhatt, so gentle and kind, Kept Shri Krishna always in mind. He served with love, he prayed with care, And found sweet joy in humble prayer.
He wrote for Shri Mahaprabhuji each day, In silence, learning the Vaishnav way. He never let pride block what he heard, He opened his heart to every word.
When sorrow came to a grieving man, Madhava Bhatt did what few souls can. He prayed to the Lord with all his heart, And helped bring joy with a loving start.
But when fame came, he walked away, To keep his Lord from worldly sway. He chose a path so soft and sweet, With love for Shri Krishna in every beat.
The thorn that pricked the Lord one night, Was repaid with pain, but also light. For those who chant the Lord's pure name, Find bliss beyond this worldly game.
So children, remember what this shows, The path of love is where true joy grows.
