Long ago in the peaceful town of Adel, there lived a kind-hearted Brahmin lady. Her life changed after her husband passed away. She began to think deeply about the meaning of life and decided to follow a spiritual path. She became a disciple of Shri Mahaprabhuji, who kindly gave her a small Shri Krishna deity to worship.
She had no money, no gold, and no fancy things. Her home was a single small room. That little room was her kitchen, her bed, and her temple. She didn’t even own a metal pot. She used simple clay pots to cook and serve Shri Krishna. She didn’t know all the rules of worship or how to follow fancy rituals, but her heart was full of love for Shri Krishna. She served Him with all the care and devotion she could.
She lived by accepting small offerings from others. Some gave her food, some gave clothes, and some gave coins. Even with so little, her heart overflowed with joy. She felt rich because she had the love of her Lord.
Some Vaishnavas in the town saw her way of worship and whispered to each other, “She doesn’t know the proper way to serve the Lord. She’s poor and old. Maybe someone else should look after her Shri Krishna deity.”
One day, one of them went to Shri Mahaprabhuji and said, “Your disciple doesn’t follow the proper Vaishnav ways. She cannot see well and has no money. If you give her Shri Krishna deity to someone else, the Lord will be served better.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji listened quietly and then smiled. He gently said, “Shri Krishna is happy with love. Not with wealth. Not with big rituals. That lady may not have much, but she offers everything with a loving heart. Her Shri Krishna is pleased with her devotion.”
The Vaishnava bowed his head and said no more.
Another day, as Shri Mahaprabhuji walked back from Shri Yamuna river after his prayers, someone told him, “This is where that Brahmin lady lives. You should see her worship.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji quietly entered her hut. She didn’t know he had come in. She was busy cooking rotis for Shri Krishna. As she cooked, she placed each warm roti on a plate for the Lord. While she turned to make another one, the roti on the plate disappeared.
She looked at the empty plate and said, “Oh! These mice must be eating the rotis!” She tapped the floor to scare them and kept cooking. Each time she placed a roti, it vanished before she turned around.
Shri Mahaprabhuji saw everything. Shri Krishna was happily eating the rotis made with her love. The scene filled Shri Mahaprabhuji with joy, and he couldn’t hold back his laughter anymore. He lovingly said, “Dear Brahmin lady, it’s not mice who are eating your rotis. Your Shri Krishna is eating them Himself!”
The woman turned around in surprise. Tears filled her eyes as she saw Shri Mahaprabhuji standing there. “Oh my Lord,” she cried, “I didn’t know you were here. I’m just a poor woman. Shri Krishna only eats what I offer because of your blessing.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji gently said, “Your love is pure. Keep serving your Shri Krishna just as you are.”
Many great sages spend their lives trying to please Shri Krishna. But this simple lady, with her pure heart, had already won His love.
As Shri Mahaprabhuji stepped outside her home, he said to all the Vaishnavas, “Shri Krishna only wants the love of His devotees.”
From that day, everyone understood how blessed the Brahmin lady from Adel was. Shri Krishna does not look at how much we have. He looks at how much love we give. He does not follow those who are proud. He walks with those who offer Him pure, simple love.
Shri Krishna ties His heart to the ones who surrender only to Him. He does not need gold or big temples. All He wants is love.
