84 Vaishnav Story 53 Bhagavandas Sanchora

In a peaceful town called Rajnagar in Gujarat, a boy named Bhagavandas Sanchora was born. From a young age, he loved to learn and spent ten long years studying with his teacher. One day, they both went to the grand temple of Shri Dwarkanathji. There, his teacher met a great saint named Shri Mahaprabhuji.

When a friendly debate began between the teacher and Shri Mahaprabhuji, the wise saint gently showed how the teacher was mistaken. The teacher, feeling a little sad, decided to travel to Benares to study more and invited Bhagavandas to join him. But Bhagavandas chose to stay at the temple in Dwarka. He felt a strong pull towards Shri Mahaprabhuji and was deeply inspired by his wisdom.

Bhagavandas humbly went to Shri Mahaprabhuji and said, “Please teach me something.” Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled and asked, “Haven’t you already studied a lot? What more do you hope to gain?”

Bhagavandas replied honestly, “If I keep learning, I can earn wealth, become famous, and be respected by other scholars.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji gently explained, “There are two kinds of knowledge. One makes us proud. It brings anger and greed. It burns like fire and does not give peace. The more one learns in that way, the more restless one becomes. But the other kind of knowledge is calm and cool. It fills the heart with joy and helps us see the world as the Lord’s play. This true knowledge makes us humble, peaceful, and full of love for Shri Krishna.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji continued, “The best kind of knowledge teaches us to be satisfied with what we have, to love the Lord deeply, and to live a simple, pure life.”

Hearing this, Bhagavandas felt peace in his heart. He bowed down and asked to stay with Shri Mahaprabhuji. From then on, he served Shri Mahaprabhuji lovingly wherever he went. Pleased with his devotion, Shri Mahaprabhuji taught him a special text called Chatushloki and blessed him. He said, “The meaning of the holy books will stay forever in your heart.”

With joy and thankfulness, Bhagavandas returned to his hometown. He lived with his wife and did his daily worship with great care.

After his wife passed away, Bhagavandas went to the holy Shri Nathji temple on Govardhan Hill. There, he met Shri Gusainji and requested to serve Shri Krishna. Shri Gusainji gave him the service of cooking food for the Lord.

Every day, Bhagavandas cooked with love and care. But one day, by mistake, he burned one of the dishes. The food was still offered to Shri Krishna, but Shri Gusainji became upset and told Bhagavandas to stop his service.

Feeling very sad, Bhagavandas went to meet a saint named Achyutadasji, who lived in a quiet cave on Govardhan Hill. Achyutadasji listened with love and told him gently, “Next time, be more careful. Shri Gusainji is kind. He will surely forgive you.”

That same day, Shri Gusainji came to visit Achyutadasji. Seeing tears in Achyutadasji’s eyes, Shri Gusainji asked, “Why are you upset today?”

Achyutadasji softly said, “You have been chosen by Shri Mahaprabhuji to guide many souls. If you start finding faults in all of them, how will they grow? Everyone makes mistakes.”

Shri Gusainji understood. “You’re right,” he said. “I only meant to teach Bhagavandas a lesson, but now I see I, too, have learned something. From now on, I will never be angry with any devotee.”

Later, Shri Gusainji found Bhagavandas sitting near Govinda Lake. With kindness, he took him back to the temple and gave him his service again.

Bhagavandas was so happy that he sang a joyful song full of love for Shri Gusainji. He praised him as a light in the world and a true servant of Shri Krishna.

From that day on, Bhagavandas served Shri Krishna with even more care and love. His heart was full of joy, and Shri Krishna accepted all his offerings with grace. Shri Krishna blessed him with deep realization and divine happiness.

Bhagavandas had learned the most important lesson: True knowledge is not just about reading and studying, but about loving the Lord with all your heart, and serving with care, humility, and devotion.

Poem: The Joy of True Knowledge

Bhagavandas learned with all his might,
He studied day and he studied night.
But Shri Mahaprabhuji helped him see,
That love and peace are the true degree.

“Some learn for pride, for gold, for fame,
But such desire is not the aim.
Real wisdom brings a heart so kind,
With joy and calmness in the mind.”

He served the Lord with gentle hand,
He cooked with care, just as planned.
One day he slipped, his dish was burned,
But through this trial, a truth he learned.

Forgiveness came, the pain was gone,
With Shri Gusainji to guide him on.
He sang with love, his heart so light,
And served Shri Krishna day and night.

So little ones, remember well,
True knowledge rings like a temple bell.
It’s not just books or what you know,
But how your heart and actions grow!
