The Birth of Devahuti and Her Marriage to Sage Kardama

Long ago, in the beautiful city of Barhishmati, there lived a noble king named Svayambhuva Manu. He was wise, gentle, and deeply devoted to the Supreme Lord. The queen, Shatarupa, was loving and kind, and together they ruled their kingdom with great care and righteousness.

King Manu and Queen Shatarupa were blessed with three daughters—Akuti, Prasuti, and Devahuti—and two sons, Priyavrata and Uttanapada. Among them, Devahuti was known for her gentle nature, deep devotion, and simple beauty. She always listened to her parents, served them with love, and had a heart full of faith in the Lord.

As Devahuti grew older, King Manu and Queen Shatarupa began to think about her future. They wanted to find a worthy husband for her, someone who was not only wise and learned, but also deeply devoted to God.

During that time, in the quiet forests by the sacred Sarasvati River, lived the great sage Kardama. He was known for his powerful meditation and his selfless devotion to Lord Vishnu. Kardama had spent thousands of years in deep meditation, praying only for the Lord’s guidance and blessings.

Pleased with Kardama’s devotion, Lord Vishnu appeared before him one day and said, “O noble sage, I am very happy with your penance. Soon, you will be blessed with a wife who will be the daughter of King Manu, and together you will have great children who will help the world.”

Kardama bowed gratefully and waited for the Lord’s promise to come true.

Back in the palace, King Manu heard about the sage Kardama and how wise and pure he was. Manu felt that such a selfless and devoted sage would be the perfect husband for Devahuti. So, he traveled with his daughter and queen to meet Kardama in the peaceful forest.

When they arrived, they found Kardama deep in meditation, sitting by the riverside. King Manu folded his hands respectfully and said, “O holy sage, I am Manu, son of Brahma. This is my daughter, Devahuti. She has been brought up with love and care, and we wish to give her hand in marriage to a worthy husband. We believe you are the right one.”

Kardama welcomed them humbly and said, “O king, I accept your daughter as my wife, just as Lord Vishnu has instructed. I promise to look after her with love and respect. When the time comes, I will help her return to a life of devotion and peace.”

Hearing these words, Devahuti felt great happiness. She bowed to her parents, and with a pure heart, accepted Kardama as her husband. Though she had grown up in a palace surrounded by luxury, Devahuti was not afraid of the simple life in the forest. She was full of faith and love.

King Manu blessed his daughter and her new husband, saying, “May you both live in harmony, supporting each other in devotion to the Lord. May you have wonderful children who will do good in the world.” With these blessings, the king and queen returned to their kingdom, leaving Devahuti in the loving care of her wise husband.

Devahuti served Kardama with great devotion, helping him in his spiritual practices and caring for him without complaint. In return, Kardama treated her with kindness, and together, they created a home filled with peace, love, and prayers to the Lord.

In time, their devotion and prayers would lead to the birth of their divine son, Kapiladeva, who would become a great teacher and help the world understand true knowledge.

Moral for Young Vaishnavs:
True happiness and peace come when we trust in God’s plan and live with love, respect, and devotion. Devahuti was not afraid to leave her palace and live a simple life because she had faith. By serving others and staying devoted to the Lord, we create joy and harmony wherever we are.
