The Departure of the Pandavas and the Coronation of Yudhishthira

Once Upon a Time…

The terrible Mahabharata war had finally come to an end. Many brave warriors had left the world, and the land of Bharat slowly began to heal. Though the Pandavas had won the war, they felt deep sorrow for the loved ones and friends they had lost.

Lord Krishna, their dearest friend and guide, comforted them and taught them about forgiveness, kindness, and the path of dharma. Now, a new chapter was about to begin—a chapter of peace, goodness, and wise rule.

The Coronation of Yudhishthira

After the war, the throne of Hastinapura stood empty. Dhritarashtra, the blind king and father of the Kauravas, had stepped down. The people of Hastinapura wanted a new king—someone wise, kind, and just.

All eyes turned to Yudhishthira, the eldest of the Pandavas. He was known for his truthfulness, gentle nature, and strong sense of duty. With Krishna’s blessings, Yudhishthira agreed to become king, though his heart was heavy with memories of the war.

A grand ceremony was prepared. The city was decorated with flags, flowers, and beautiful lamps. People from all over the kingdom came to see the coronation. Holy sages, family members, and friends gathered to bless Yudhishthira.

During the ceremony, Yudhishthira was bathed with sacred waters and given the royal crown. Krishna, the elders, and the priests placed their hands on his head, blessing him to rule with love, fairness, and devotion to dharma. The people cheered, “Long live King Yudhishthira!” and joy returned to the land.

Under King Yudhishthira’s rule, the kingdom became peaceful and prosperous. He cared for everyone equally and listened kindly to all. With his brothers by his side—Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva—the people of Hastinapura felt safe, loved, and happy.

The Departure of the Pandavas

Many years passed. The Pandavas ruled with wisdom and goodness, always remembering Krishna’s teachings. But as time went by, the Pandavas began to feel the call of the higher spiritual path.

One day, Yudhishthira spoke to his brothers, “We have fulfilled our duties on Earth. Now it is time for us to renounce everything and seek the Lord.” The brothers agreed, and so did Draupadi, their beloved wife. They had seen the world’s joys and sorrows and were ready to seek God alone.

Yudhishthira crowned Parikshit, Arjuna’s grandson, as the next king. Parikshit was wise and noble, just like his ancestors. The people were happy, for they trusted him to rule with dharma.

The Pandavas and Draupadi put on simple clothes and left the palace behind. They walked away from their kingdom, riches, and all worldly ties, carrying only memories of their loving family and Lord Krishna’s blessings.

They traveled north, towards the mighty Himalaya mountains. Along the way, they remembered all the beautiful times they had shared—adventures, lessons, and Krishna’s loving presence. One by one, their bodies grew tired and they left this world, their souls journeying towards the heavenly abode, Vaikuntha, to be united with Lord Krishna forever.

Only Yudhishthira, pure in heart and free from pride, reached the gates of heaven in his own body, accompanied by a faithful dog who turned out to be none other than Dharma, the god of righteousness.

Moral of the Story

Dear children, the story of the Pandavas’ departure and Yudhishthira’s coronation teaches us the value of duty, humility, and letting go. No matter how great or successful we become, life is most beautiful when we follow the path of dharma, serve others, and remember God’s love. Like the Pandavas, may we all learn to live wisely, share kindly, and seek what is truly eternal.
