In the ancient times of the universe, there have been many wonderful kings and protectors known as Manus. Each Manu was chosen by Lord Vishnu to take care of the world and guide the people in following dharma—doing what is right. There are fourteen Manus in every day of Brahma, and each one brings a new story of wisdom, courage, and devotion.
Let’s hear the gentle stories of a few special Manus:
1. Swayambhuva Manu – The First Guide
Swayambhuva Manu was the very first Manu, created by Lord Brahma himself. He and his wife, Shatarupa, began life on earth when it was brand new. They had sons and daughters who became great kings and queens. Swayambhuva taught everyone about prayer, honesty, and working together to keep the world safe and happy. He is remembered as the father of all humans.
2. Svarochisha Manu – The Second Era
After Swayambhuva, came Svarochisha Manu. He was chosen by the gods to look after the world in a time filled with change. He helped people remember God and taught them to be peaceful and kind, even when the world was troubled. During his time, Lord Vishnu appeared as Vibhu, who led many to a life of devotion.
3. Uttama Manu – The King of Peace
The third Manu was Uttama. His rule was peaceful, with sages and saints teaching everywhere. The people learned to worship the Lord in temples and nature, and the land became lush and green. Lord Vishnu appeared as Satyasena during Uttama Manu’s time, teaching truth and wisdom.
4. Tamasa Manu – The Brave Protector
Tamasa Manu ruled during times when evil sometimes rose in the world. He worked bravely to guide people back to dharma. Lord Vishnu came as Hari, saving the earth from trouble and helping Manu’s children live good lives.
5. Raivata Manu – The Giver of Joy
Raivata Manu was known for making his people joyful and happy. He built beautiful places and encouraged music, stories, and celebrations of the Lord. Lord Vishnu appeared as Vaikuntha, creating peace and happiness.
6. Chakshusha Manu – The Wise Teacher
Chakshusha Manu was gentle and wise. He helped everyone—kings and villagers alike—learn to serve the Lord with a pure heart. Lord Vishnu’s avatar Ajita helped in churning the ocean of milk, bringing many gifts to the world.
7. Vaivasvata Manu – The Current Age
We live in the time of Vaivasvata Manu, the seventh Manu. He is the son of the Sun god, Vivasvan, and guided humanity after a great flood. Lord Vishnu appeared as Matsya, the fish, to save Manu and all the creatures during the flood, guiding the boat to safety. Vaivasvata Manu’s children and grandchildren became great kings and sages, spreading wisdom everywhere.
Each Manu’s age is full of adventures, challenges, and blessings from the Lord. Some Manus saw the appearance of great avatars like Kurma (the tortoise), Narasimha (the man-lion), and Vamana (the dwarf). In every age, the Manu listens to the Lord, protects the good, and teaches people to love and serve God with a true heart.
Moral for Young Vaishnavs:
Every age and every leader faces new challenges, but when we remember God, act with kindness, and help one another, we can make the world a better place—just like the noble Manus.
