After King Chitraketu’s heart was softened by sorrow and filled with wisdom by the sages, he became a great devotee of the Lord. He spent his days listening to the teachings of holy men like Narada and Angira, and his love for the Supreme Lord grew stronger every day.
One day, Sage Narada gave Chitraketu a powerful mantra—the sacred names of Lord Narayana—and taught him how to chant with deep faith and love. Chitraketu began meditating, singing the Lord’s glories, and practicing the mantra day and night. Through his devotion, he became peaceful, wise, and filled with joy.
The Lord, pleased by Chitraketu’s faith, appeared before him in a brilliant form, holding His conch, discus, mace, and lotus. The Lord’s presence filled the room with divine light. Chitraketu bowed with folded hands and thanked the Lord for His blessings. The Lord spoke kindly, “Dear Chitraketu, your devotion has purified your heart. Continue to share love and wisdom with all, and you will always be close to Me.”
Blessed with spiritual knowledge, Chitraketu traveled through the heavens, spreading happiness and singing the Lord’s names. He became king of the Vidyadharas—heavenly beings known for their wisdom and music.
Chitraketu Meets Lord Shiva
One day, while flying in his heavenly chariot, Chitraketu came upon Lord Shiva seated on Mount Kailash, surrounded by sages and his consort, Goddess Parvati. Lord Shiva was teaching about the greatness of devotion and the power of renunciation.
Chitraketu, seeing Lord Shiva sitting with Parvati on his lap, spoke with a gentle smile, “O Lord Shiva, you are the greatest yogi, master of detachment. How wonderful that you teach renunciation yet sit so lovingly with your wife among so many sages!”
He spoke not with disrespect, but with humor and admiration. The sages smiled, but Goddess Parvati felt Chitraketu’s words were too bold. She worried others might not understand the greatness of Lord Shiva and could misunderstand his actions.
Parvati, a mother to all, became upset and cursed Chitraketu, saying, “Because you have spoken too freely before the Lord of yogis, you will be born as a demon in your next life.”
Chitraketu bowed with humility and did not become angry or afraid. He accepted the curse with grace and folded his hands, saying, “Mother, I bow to your words. Whether I am born as a king, a god, or a demon, my heart will always remember the Lord.”
Lord Shiva comforted Parvati and praised Chitraketu’s devotion, saying, “See, dear Parvati, true devotees are never disturbed by joy or sorrow. They remain humble, forgiving, and full of love.”
Chitraketu accepted his new fate with a calm mind, teaching everyone that a true devotee sees the Lord’s hand in everything and remains peaceful, no matter what happens.
Moral for Young Vaishnavs:
True devotion means remaining humble and steady, even when faced with hardship or misunderstanding. Always respect others, keep faith in your heart, and remember that the Lord’s love is with you in every situation.
