The Birth of Varaha Avatar and the Slaying of Hiranyaksha

Once Upon a Time…

In the earliest days of creation, the world was very different from what we know today. The earth, called Bhudevi, was lost—she had sunk deep into the cosmic ocean. Without the earth, there could be no life, no people, no animals, and no plants. Lord Brahma, the creator, became worried and prayed to Lord Vishnu for help.

The Birth of Varaha, the Divine Boar

As Brahma prayed, something miraculous happened. Suddenly, from the nose of Lord Brahma, a tiny boar, no bigger than a thumb, leaped out! Before anyone could blink, this little boar began to grow bigger and bigger, rising up into the sky, shining with the radiance of a thousand suns.

The gods and sages watched in awe as the boar grew so large that He could carry the earth with ease. This was no ordinary boar—it was Lord Vishnu Himself, who had taken the form of Varaha, the mighty divine boar, to rescue the earth and save creation.

The gods and sages sang hymns of praise, and the whole universe rejoiced, knowing that the Lord had come to protect everyone.

The Wicked Hiranyaksha

But all was not peaceful. There lived a fearsome demon named Hiranyaksha, who was strong, proud, and full of anger. Hiranyaksha had troubled everyone, disturbing the sages and gods, and worst of all, he had pushed the earth down to the bottom of the ocean. He wanted to rule over all the worlds without caring for righteousness or kindness.

When Varaha saw that Bhudevi was trapped in the dark waters because of Hiranyaksha, He decided to rescue her.

The Great Battle

With a thunderous roar that echoed through the worlds, Varaha dove into the ocean. He searched through the swirling waters and soon found the earth resting at the bottom, covered in darkness. Gently, Varaha lifted Bhudevi onto His mighty tusks.

But as He rose to the surface, the angry demon Hiranyaksha blocked His way. “Stop, Varaha! The earth belongs to me!” shouted the demon.

Varaha was calm and full of divine strength. He placed the earth safely back in her place above the waters, so that life could return to normal. Then, Varaha turned to face Hiranyaksha.

A great battle began! The ocean trembled and the gods watched from above. Varaha and Hiranyaksha fought fiercely, their roars shaking the sky and waves crashing all around. But Varaha was the Lord Himself. With a mighty blow of His tusks, Varaha defeated Hiranyaksha, bringing peace back to the world.

The Blessing of Bhudevi

After the demon was vanquished, Varaha gently spoke to the earth, “Do not be afraid. I am always here to protect you.” Bhudevi, filled with gratitude, offered prayers and blessings to the Lord.

The gods and sages rejoiced, showering Varaha with flowers. The world was restored, and all living beings could once again live in peace, knowing that the Lord would always come to protect dharma whenever it was in danger.

Moral of the Story

Dear children, the story of Varaha Avatar teaches us that God will always come to protect goodness and restore balance, no matter how difficult the situation. Like Bhudevi, we should always have faith in the Lord and do our best to be kind, truthful, and brave. Whenever there is darkness, remember that the Lord’s love and courage will always bring back the light.
