The Creation by Brahma – The Beginning of the Universe

Long ago, before the sun, the moon, or even the earth existed, everything was silent and peaceful. There was only a vast, endless ocean, and within that cosmic ocean, the Supreme Lord Vishnu rested on His great serpent, Ananta Shesha. Lord Vishnu’s body glowed with a gentle, golden light, and His eyes were filled with love.

As Lord Vishnu slept, from His navel grew a beautiful, golden lotus. This was not an ordinary flower—it was bigger than the sun, shining with soft, divine light. And seated upon that lotus appeared a most amazing being: Lord Brahma, the first living creature in the universe.

Brahma had four faces so he could look in every direction at once. But when he opened his eyes, he saw only darkness all around him. He did not know who he was or what he was supposed to do. There was no land, no sky, not even a sound—only the gentle movement of the lotus swaying on the cosmic waters.

Brahma wondered, “Where am I? Who has created me? What am I meant to do?” He looked down and saw the long stem of the lotus disappearing into the dark water. Feeling curious and a little lonely, Brahma climbed down the stem, hoping to find its end and understand where he had come from.

But the stem seemed endless, and after a long search, Brahma could not find the answer. Feeling tired and puzzled, he climbed back up and sat quietly on the lotus once more. He decided to meditate, closing his eyes and focusing his mind. Brahma sat in deep meditation, longing for guidance.

After a long time, Brahma heard a mysterious sound from within: “Tapa, tapa.” The gentle voice told him to perform “tapasya,” or deep meditation and prayer. Trusting the voice, Brahma sat in silence and meditated with full devotion, wishing to understand the Supreme Lord’s will.

Moved by Brahma’s devotion and effort, Lord Vishnu appeared before him in a beautiful, radiant form. Vishnu’s eyes were as calm as the moon, and He smiled kindly at Brahma. Lord Vishnu said, “Do not fear. I am the source of everything. I have brought you into this world, and your duty is to create.”

Now, filled with new energy and wisdom, Brahma offered his respects to Lord Vishnu and asked, “How should I create when there is only darkness all around?”

Lord Vishnu blessed Brahma and revealed the secrets of creation. He taught Brahma the sacred knowledge found in the Vedas, the ancient scriptures, and filled his heart with divine inspiration.

With Lord Vishnu’s blessings, Brahma began his work. He chanted the sacred names of the Lord, and slowly, the universe started to take shape. First, the waters parted and land appeared. The sky, stars, sun, and moon began to shine. Brahma then created time itself—dividing it into day and night, months and years—so that all living beings would have a sense of rhythm and order.

From Brahma’s mind, many sages and beings appeared—each with a special role to play in the new universe. He created the directions, the mountains, and the rivers. He filled the world with plants, animals, and finally, people. The world became colorful and alive, all through the power and blessings of the Supreme Lord.

Brahma continued his work, always remembering Lord Vishnu in his heart. He knew that all his creative power came from the Lord and that by following the Lord’s guidance, everything in the world would remain in perfect harmony.

And so, with devotion and wisdom, Brahma became the first creator, shaping the universe out of love, under the kind and watchful eye of Lord Vishnu.

Moral for Young Vaishnavs:
Creation is possible only with faith, humility, and devotion. Even Brahma, the first being, had to pray and seek guidance from the Lord before he could create anything. Always remember to ask for the Lord’s help with a sincere heart, and He will guide you on your path. Whatever we achieve, we do so by the grace of God, and we must always stay humble and grateful.
