The Story of the Birth of Prithu – The First King, Avatar of Vishnu

Long ago, after the troublesome reign of King Vena, the kingdom was left in darkness and confusion. The people were sad, as there was no one to care for them, guide them, or perform the sacred duties of a good king. Even the earth stopped giving grains and fruits because there was so much sorrow and no one to look after her.

The wise sages in the kingdom, seeing everyone’s suffering, gathered together to pray and ask for the Lord’s help. They remembered that King Vena’s family line came from great rulers, and they hoped for a noble leader who would bring back peace and happiness.

With their spiritual power, the sages performed a special yagna, a holy sacrifice. From the body of King Vena, they purified and brought forth two beings—a dark form that took away all the sins, and then a bright, radiant prince. This prince was Prithu, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu Himself, who came to earth to save and care for everyone.

When Prithu was born, his face glowed with wisdom and kindness. He wore shining armor and looked like a true protector. As soon as he was crowned king, all the people felt hope return to their hearts. The land became peaceful, and the sky filled with happiness.

But Mother Earth, still in the form of a cow, was frightened and had stopped giving her gifts to the people. Prithu understood her fear and approached her with compassion. He did not become angry or forceful. Instead, he gently asked her why she was hiding her treasures.

Mother Earth said, “O noble King, the people were not following dharma and taking care of me properly. I was afraid and withdrew my blessings.”

Prithu folded his hands and promised to always protect her and teach everyone to act with kindness, respect, and responsibility. He showed the people how to care for the earth, perform their duties, and worship the Lord. Mother Earth was pleased by Prithu’s gentle words and his promise. She blessed him and the people, and soon, the fields were green again, trees bore fruit, rivers flowed, and there was plenty of food for everyone.

Prithu was loved by all. He taught people how to live in harmony with nature and one another. He always remembered Lord Vishnu in his heart and ruled with justice and love. Because of his goodness, King Prithu became the model for all future kings and was known as the first true king on earth.

Moral for Young Vaishnavs:
True leadership means caring for others and protecting the earth with love and respect. Like King Prithu, if we act with kindness, responsibility, and devotion to God, we can bring happiness to everyone around us.
