A long time ago, in the holy city of Mathura, there lived a gifted poet. He was born in a Brahmin family and was known far and wide for his beautiful poems and songs. Because of his great talent, people called him "Kaviraj," which means the king of poets.
Kaviraj loved to sing. He wrote poems for many gods and goddesses. He also sang about kings and their grand lives. One day, he was sitting near the calm waters of the Yamuna River. As the gentle breeze blew, he began singing praises of Lord Shiva.
Just then, Shri Mahaprabhuji came to the riverbank. Kaviraj saw Him and felt something special. He thought, “This is a wise and holy person. I should ask Him something important.”
So Kaviraj asked about various Devi & Devtas and who was bigger Shri Krishna or others.
Shri Mahaprabhuji kindly replied, “The scriptures say that Shri Krishna is the Supreme One. But in truth, whoever someone believes is the greatest becomes the greatest for that person.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji explained with examples from Shrimad Bhagavatam Mahapuran.
These explanations touched Kaviraj’s heart. His mind felt clear and peaceful. He bowed and said, “Please let me become your disciple. By being close to you, I believe Shri Krishna will bless me.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled and asked gently, “But you are already the king of poets. Why do you want to be my student?”
Kaviraj replied, “Without your guidance, I will keep wasting my time singing about Devi, Devtas and kings. Please bless me so I can sing only of Shri Krishna.”
Shri Mahaprabhuji told him, “I am going to a village called Adel. If you truly wish to follow this path, come there with your two brothers. I will see if your heart remains firm.”
Kaviraj agreed and later went to Adel with his brothers. There, Shri Mahaprabhuji gave them all initiation. Kaviraj now had a true teacher and a clear path.
After the initiation, Kaviraj asked Shri Mahaprabhuji, “Can you tell me who I was in my past life? And why did I take birth in this world again?”
Shri Mahaprabhuji gently shared, “In your last life, you were the wise sage Shandilya Muni. You wrote the ‘Bhakti Sutra,’ a book that teaches about love and devotion to God. But one day, you became proud. You thought, ‘I am the best because I know the most about devotion.’ Another sage, Vishvamitra, saw your pride and gave you a curse. Because of that, you had to be born again on Earth. But when you leave this life, you will return to your place as that great sage.”
Kaviraj listened quietly and bowed with a humble heart. Afterward, he went to Jatipura to have darshan of Shri Nathji. From the moment he met Shri Mahaprabhuji, Kaviraj’s life changed forever. He felt filled with joy and peace. He spent the rest of his life singing the glories of Shri Krishna and his beloved guru, Shri Mahaprabhuji.
