84 Vaishnav Story 67 Gopaldas of Punjab

Gopaldas was a gentle and faithful man who loved to go on pilgrimages to holy places. One day, he traveled to the sacred city of Mathura. From there, he continued his journey to Benares, where he performed special prayers for his dear father who had passed away.

After completing his rituals, Gopaldas began his journey back to Mathura. Along the way, he had the good fortune of meeting Shri Mahaprabhuji. Feeling blessed, he decided to travel with him.

But something sad happened during the journey. While Gopaldas was resting one night, a group of thieves came and stole all his belongings. In the morning, with a calm heart, he told Shri Mahaprabhuji what had happened.

He said, “I am not upset about losing my things, but I do not have any money left to go back to Agra, where I can get more.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji gently told him not to worry. “Go to Krishnadas Meghan and take whatever you need,” he said. Then Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled and added, “This happened because of something long ago. Ten years back, you met some thieves who had stolen things. You stopped them, took the stolen goods from them, and gave them a hard beating. Now, you are facing the results of that action.”

Gopaldas was surprised and said, “Yes! That is exactly what happened!” He thought deeply and realized something very special—Shri Mahaprabhuji must be divine to know something no one had told him.

From that moment, Gopaldas felt a deep love and respect for Shri Mahaprabhuji. He asked to become his disciple. Shri Mahaprabhuji kindly agreed and taught him a sacred teaching called Siddhant Rahasya. As Gopaldas listened, his heart became full of light. He bowed to his guru and said, “Through you, I have come to know the truth about the Supreme Lord.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji was pleased with Gopaldas because he was humble and full of faith.

Some time later, it was the birthday of Shri Mahaprabhuji. On this special day, Gopaldas arrived as his guru was doing the birthday prayers. Gopaldas began to sing a sweet and beautiful song.

“In the bright month of Vaisakh,” he sang, “Shri Hari has come as Shri Vallabh, to show the path of love and devotion. He sets souls free and gives hope to those who trust him. Those who offer their hearts to the Lord become fearless.”

He continued singing, “Shri Vallabh is the prince of all three worlds. No one gives blessings like he does. He helps people cross the ocean of sorrow and shows them the joy of serving Shri Krishna.”

“Just one glance from him brings the wish to see Shri Krishna. He takes away all pain. Those who remember him feel peace in their hearts. Even the Vedas fold their hands to praise him. His life is like that of Shri Krishna.”

Then he sang softly, “You are Shri Krishna himself, the joy of your devotees. Those who see you are blessed. Your name brings comfort—Rama, Krishna, Mukunda, Madho, Lord of the Gopis, friend of the lost. The Vedas speak of your mercy. Shri Vallabh, you have shared countless loving lilas.”

With every word, Gopaldas poured his love and devotion into his song. Shri Mahaprabhuji’s heart was touched. Gopaldas knew that the love of his guru and the grace of Shri Krishna were the greatest treasures of his life.

From that day on, he stayed close to Shri Mahaprabhuji, serving with love, singing with joy, and walking the path of bhakti with a heart full of thankfulness.

Poem: The Gift of Grace

Gopaldas walked to holy land,
With loving heart and open hand.
In Mathura he prayed so true,
Then met the saint so pure to view.

Some thieves had taken all his gold,
Yet Gopaldas stayed calm and bold.
Shri Mahaprabhuji spoke with cheer,
“Your past has brought this moment here.”

He gave him help, he gave him care,
He showed that Shri Krishna is always there.
Gopaldas sang with joy so bright,
Praising his guru with heart so light.

“Shri Vallabhji shows the way,
To love, to peace, to endless day.”
The moral here is sweet and clear,
Serve with love, and hold Him near.
