84 Vaishnav Story 68 Janardandas Chopda Kshatriya

In the sacred land of Thaneshwar, there lived a brave young boy named Janardandas. He was born into a family of warriors, and from a very young age, he learned that true warriors always stand strong in the face of fear.

One day, an enemy king invaded their land. The local ruler gathered his soldiers to defend the kingdom. Janardandas’s father also prepared for battle, wearing his armor and carrying his weapons. But as he stood on the battlefield, fear filled his heart. He turned back and came home without fighting.

Janardandas saw his father return and felt very sad. He gently told him, “A warrior should never run away from the battlefield. If you cannot stay true to your duty, it is better for you to leave this place.”

Hearing his son’s words, the father left Thaneshwar and went south, hoping to find peace elsewhere.

When the battle was over, the local ruler came back and asked Janardandas, “Where is your father?”

Janardandas replied truthfully, “My father has run away.”

But the ruler thought Janardandas was hiding his father. In anger, he had Janardandas locked in prison. That very evening, the ruler’s home caught fire. The flames spread quickly, and sadly, his entire family perished in the blaze.

Realizing his mistake, the ruler felt deep regret. He went to the prison and freed Janardandas. “You may return safely to Thaneshwar now,” the ruler said softly.

Janardandas was filled with sadness and worry for his father. He set out on a long journey to search for him. On the way, he noticed two shining gold coins lying on the road. He picked them up and kept walking, his heart heavy with questions.

Soon he met a kind devotee of Shri Mahaprabhuji named Vasudevadasji. Janardandas asked him, “Have you seen my father?”

Vasudevadasji replied gently, “I have not seen him. But listen carefully, dear one. You are a blessed soul. Leave your search for your father and travel to Gokul. There, you will meet Shri Mahaprabhuji and begin a life of true devotion. Your father’s journey is ending, and in one month, he will leave this world.”

At first, Janardandas could not believe these words. Seeing his doubt, Vasudevadasji said, “Did you not find two gold coins on the road recently? Those coins will only bring you worry. Offer them to a Brahmin.”

Hearing this, Janardandas realized Vasudevadasji’s wisdom. He felt certain that these were not ordinary words.

With a calm heart, he began his pilgrimage to Gokul. When he arrived, he humbly offered the two gold coins to Shri Mahaprabhuji.

But Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled and said, “You are a great fool for bringing these coins to me. Give them instead to a Brahmin in Mathura. Now, come with me to Shri Nathji’s temple.”

At Jatipura, Shri Mahaprabhuji lovingly initiated Janardandas as his disciple. He gave him the service of preparing the turbans for Shri Nathji. For ten days, Janardandas stayed close to his guru in Anyor, a peaceful village near the Govardhan Hill.

Before Janardandas left, Shri Mahaprabhuji blessed him, saying, “Keep your mind always focused on Shri Krishna’s seva.”

From that day on, Janardandas felt Shri Nathji’s divine presence in his heart. His life became filled with love and devotion. Every day, he remembered how Vasudevadasji’s kind words had brought him to this sacred path.

For the rest of his life, Janardandas was deeply grateful to Vasudevadasji. Because of him, he had found Shri Mahaprabhuji, and through Shri Mahaprabhuji’s grace, he became a true bhakta.

Poem: The Golden Path

Janardandas walked with a heart so true,
Looking for his father, not knowing what to do.
Two gold coins he found along his way,
But they brought no joy, only worry and dismay.

Vasudevadasji spoke with a gentle tone,
“Go to Gokul, you are not alone.
Give up the coins, seek Shri Mahaprabhuji’s grace,
There you will find your rightful place.”

Shri Mahaprabhuji smiled, his blessings so bright,
“Serve Shri Nathji with love, day and night.”
Janardandas’s heart blossomed like a flower,
He felt Shri Krishna’s joy in every hour.

Moral: True peace comes not from gold, but from serving with love and a devoted soul.
